Investigation of cell penetrating peptides and membrane uptake mechanisms

Developing novel methods is imperative in order to inactivate the Beta-lactamase enzyme and to overcome antibiotics resistance. Through the research of certain cell penetrating peptides we aim to find more effective methods to carry antibiotics into bacterial cells. In our current studies, we are investigating the properties of the pVEC and Melittin peptides. The molecular mechanism of the peptides moving through a membrane is simulated by using steered molecular dynamics simulations. Our study focuses on the effects of membrane composition, different types of cell penetrating peptides and the effect of concentration on membrane permeability.
